About the Collection

Recorded by Jonah Eller-Isaacs (then a graduate student at Vanderbilt University) in Northern Malawi in the 2000s, the AIDS Songs of Northern Malawi collection consists of a series of songs in traditional style dedicated to topics surrounding the AIDS epidemic. Originally performed in the chiChewa and chiTumbuka Bantu languages of the region, full recordings, lyrics, and translations are being made available online.

Additional visual materials present in this collection include digital photographs from Eller-Isaacs's time in Malawi in 2004.

This collection is part of the Global Music Archive (GMA) at Vanderbilt University, a collaboration between the Blair School of Music and the Anne Potter Wilson Music Library.
